Civilization Beyond Earth

To write a review about a game of Civilization Beyond Earth’s scale is no small feat. After playing over 20 hours during the weekend, finishing a single campaign and getting acquainted with its new features, I feel ready to judge if this new entry in the legendary series is worth one. More. Turn.

Can Beyond Earth and Interstellar change how we view space colonization?

Earth is not the only habitable planet known to man anymore, but as a race we aren’t quite ready to leave behind the rock that saw us evolve into the intelligent, civilized people we are today. My last statement is bordering on sarcasm, as I believe the only reason we aren’t conquering (or at least planning) other solar systems is due to our lack of maturity as a species. Our population is too preoccupied with its self-destructive ways to pay attention to the endless possibilities of space. My hopes are that Civilization: Beyond Earth and Interstellar might open the mind of many.

Inkwells and Staves

Jean-Roch Roy and I have worked together in the video games industry since 2004 and while we don't discuss life on an everyday basis, we've had several conversations in the past about personal hobbies and such. That said, I wasn't aware until very recently that one of JR's biggest passions is music, and I can tell you I was missing out.

The 12 Stages of playing Destiny

A 6+ years development cycle, an inflated budget (the biggest for a single game so far), the Lead Writer leaving Bungie and a perfume ad campaign fiasco later, players are left with a bitter taste in their mouths as they uncover the shortcomings of what was supposed to be the game of the year. Here’s a preview on what to expect from Destiny’s first 24 hours.

Netflix hits another homerun with Bojack Horseman

When I turned on Netflix a week ago to watch my daily episode of Archer or Futurama, I was greeted by a banner for their new original series Bojack Horseman. Its art style and premise looked too odd to attract me at first but after a few days ignoring it, curiosity got the best of me. It took me only 3 days to go through the 12–parts season 1 and I loved every second of it.

X-Men Days of Future Past

X-Men Days of Future Past was released last weekend as the highly anticipated entry in the superhero blockbuster lineup that is heating up the summer. It did well in the box office and the critics are claiming it the best movie of the franchise so far (we know it won’t end there), but was it good enough to satisfy my inner geek? The short answer’s yes, but Xavier commands your mind to read further.

Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls

Diablo 3 was released 2 years ago to mixed reviews due to its excessively long development time, missing features and subpar itemization. The community backlash paired with disappointing retention forced Jay Wilson to switch projects and named Josh Mosqueira to replace him as Game Director. The development team under his direction has graced us with the much anticipated Patch 2.0 in late February. It brought revised difficulty levels, Loot 2.0, Paragon 2.0, Clans and basically put back some life into the game. That was one great step ahead but with the release of Reaper of Souls today, Blizzard expects their gothic franchise to shine as bright as a Obsidian Plate of the Whale once more and hopefully regain the love of the most hardcore fans.
